As a nuclear engineer at the prestigious Lawrence Livermore, Dr. Sitaraman is primarily a research and development scientist, with responsibilities covering safety analysis, aviation transport, and consultations. In his field, dealing with the hazardous materials used for nuclear technology is a must, and he is one of the most well equipped and longest serving nuclear engineers in his field. Dr. Sitaraman holds a number of patents related to development of nuclear safeguards, and is an expert in nuclear transportation using Monte Carlo techniques, nuclear radiation shielding design, critical safety analysis, and spent fuel shipping cask design.
Dr. Sitaraman is an alumnus of the University of Madras, in India, and earned a Master of Science in Nuclear Physics from Andhra University. He further studied for a second Master of Science from the Imperial College, University of London in the U.K. and earned a PhD from the University of Washington in 1984. Since then, Dr. Sitaraman has accrued numerous teaching and practical experiences with nuclear technology, and has published over 45 papers in journals and conference proceedings. He is a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, the Alpha Nu Sigma Nuclear Engineering Honor Society, and the American Nuclear Society.
