Cornelis du Toit, Contract Engineer at AS and D Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.

Since 2004, Dr. du Toit has worked at NASA, earning several accolades and distinctions in his senior staff contract engineer position with the reputable agency. In 2016, Dr. du Toit received several awards for his work, including the NASA Advancement Award for AETD Science and Technology as a member of the KaBand Communication Technologists Team, the NASA Exceptional Engineering Medal and the NASA Group Achievement Award as a member of the MMS Navigator Team. In 2017, he received NASA Group Achievement Awards as member of the Dellingr 6U SmallSat Team, and of the IceCube Radiometer Instrument Development Team. Earlier in his career, he received an ISTD Contractor Excellence Award in 2013 and 2008. He received an ATCL in Piano Recital from Trinity College in 2008 and was a Harry Crossley Fund Scholar during 1985 to 1987.

Dr. du Toit developed an interest in science while living in his native South Africa. He attended the University of Stellenbosch, earning a BEng cum laude in 1984. He continued at the institution to receive a MEng, cum laude and a PhD in engineering in 1986 and 1992, respectively. While obtaining a PhD, he worked as a research assistant at the university. After graduation, Dr. du Toit started working as an antenna engineer at Plessey Tellumat, South Africa, and then became Chief RF antenna engineer at Deltec Telesystems, New Zealand. In the late 1990s, he moved to the United States, accepting a position as a senior antenna engineer at Paratek Microwave. He worked in this position until joining NASA in 2004.

Some of Dr. du Toit’s achievements include holding patents in the field. He is also a senior member of the IEEE which has aided in his professional development. Outside of engineering, Dr. du Toit enjoys music, piano, amateur astronomy and hiking. He has contributed to numerous articles and professional journals.
