Danny Ray Middleton, Research Engineer at Texas A&M Transportation Institute, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil engineering.
Dr. Middleton has dedicated 35 years of his career to the work of civil engineering, with much of it at the Texas A&M University where he earned a Ph.D. in 1994. He recently received a 2016 TTI/Trinity Herbert H. Richardson Team Award from the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, where he has worked to study vehicle monitoring, civil engineering, and traffic operations. Dr. Middleton is primarily a researcher, though he has contributed in a limited respect to continuing education and has been a program manager.
At a young age, Dr. Middleton frequently watched his father’s heavy equipment business, which sparked his interest in civil engineering. Since 1983 he has worked as a research engineer with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Dr. Middleton is an expert in vehicle detection, and has done much work using sensors to monitor traffic on freeways and intersections. He attributes his success to having a good team. Though his background is in civil engineering, he is specialized in vehicle detection. Often, Dr. Middleton has had to rely on experts in computer science and programming, and so appreciates a good team collaboration.
