Kartik Balasubramanian Ariyur, PhD, Research Professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Control Systems Engineering.
Since 2015, Dr. Ariyur has been sharing his expertise as a visiting professor of Purdue University, though he is better known for his plethora of innovations in control systems. He holds numerous patents on adaptive braking for electric vehicles, control of solar thermal plants for maximizing component life, as well as numerous developments in the field of aviation, from pilot estimation using prediction error method-switched filters to methods of predicting ground effect forces on fixed wing aircraft. For his work as a scientist with Honeywell Labs in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Ariyur was honored with a 2003 Technological Achievement Award, and has received a 2004 Outstanding Paper Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers International.
Born in Hyderabad, India to Balasubramanian M. Ariyur and Usha Baalasubramanian Ariyur, Dr. Ariyur studied with the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, and immigrated to the U.S. in 1996 to work as an engineering intern at the United Technologies Research Center in East Hartford, Connecticut. He matriculated toward an MS from the University of California, San Diego, in 1999, and served a second internship with Qualcomm Technologies in La Jolla, California. In 2002, Dr. Ariyur completed a PhD from the University of California, San Diego. He had been teaching and conducting research for many years, and joined the prestigious global technology firm Honeywell in 2002. Dr. Ariyur first taught as a guest lecturer at Purdue in 2001, and he has returned in various capacities over the last few years.
In addition to numerous invitations from institutions throughout the country, Dr. Ariyur has worked with the IEEE on several programs and committees from robotics to aerospace. Since 2005 he has served as a technical editor for the International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, and is the author of “Real-Time Optimization by Extremum Seeking Control”, published in 2003. He has supported the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. In his spare time, Dr. Ariyur enjoys drawing and Indian classical music, as well as studying philosophy and the law. He is recognized as a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, and has appeared in the pages of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, and Who’s Who in the World.
