Dennis D. Traux, Civil Engineer, Educator, and Consultant, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Civil Engineering.
Dr. Truax loves making a positive impact on society, and has served the cause as a civil engineering professional, educator, and consultant in the field. He has taught civil engineering with the Mississippi State University as a professor since 1996, and has been with the institution since he was a graduate student there in the late ‘70s. He was honored as one of the Professional New Faces of Civil Engineering Mentor of the American Society of Civil Engineers from 2014 to 2016. Dr. Truax is certified in environmental engineering as well as water and wastewater engineering with the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists.
Born in Hagerstown, Maryland to Bernard James and Dorothy Hilda Truax, Dr. Truax attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University to earn a BCE in 1976, and went on to complete an MS in civil engineering from Mississippi State in 1978. He funded his education as an assistant deputy construction manager in Fairfax County, Virginia and as a design engineer in Washington County, Maryland. Dr. Truax quickly became an invaluable resource, directing a number of projects at the university. He has been the James T. White Chair in Civil and Environmental Engineering with the Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State since 2006, and in 2014 he became director of the university’s Mississippi Transportation Research Center. For his many contributions, Dr. Truax has been honored with a plethora of awards.
Dr. Truax is recognized as a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, and is the recipient of a Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. He has appeared in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World. He continues to be the principal and vice president of engineering at ATI Inc., and was notably named Keynote Speaker of the 59th Annual Meeting of the Mississippi Water Environment Association in 2016. Dr. Truax is a prolific volunteer with the Methodist community of Mississippi, and continues to hold a seat with the editorial board of the Professional Issues Journal of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He has supported numerous societies over a fruitful career, including the American Water Works Association, the American Society of Civil Engineeres, the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a fellow of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
