Ashis Banerjee, Assistant Professor at the University of Washington, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Industrial, Systems, and Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. Banerjee has held his current position since 2015, after working with the Complex Systems Engineering Laboratory at the global research division of General Electric for three years. He has also worked with the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Banerjee has found a natural progression to his work with using lasers to control microscopic objects since he arrived in the U.S. for his education, and has found tying science and engineering together to result in new and exciting projects. He is hoping to become a tenured associate professor and a leader in digital manufacturing, particularly smart manufacturing, automated manipulation using laser light, as well as 3D printing on a micro scale.
A graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology, Dr. Banerjee studied technology, manufacturing science, and engineering. He went on to the University of Maryland to complete an MS in mechanical engineering, followed by a PhD in 2009. Dr. Banerjee initially trained with Cadbury India Limited, and worked with the University of Maryland as a graduate research assistant. He was a postdoctoral associate at MIT from 2009 to 2011, where he worked with the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
In 2017, Dr. Banerjee joined the program committee of the Robotics Science and Systems Conference, and was an associate editor of the conference editorial board at the International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering. He has contributed 47 articles to professional journals and conference proceedings, and won numerous paper awards, including a 2012 Most Cited Paper Award from the Computer-Aided Design Journal. Dr. Banerjee was recognized for his work with General Electric with a 2013 Above & Beyond Silver Award from the Global Research Division of GE. He is a member of the IEEE and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
