Mr. Mende has worked with Defense Contracts Management West since the late 1980s, and has been a working engineer since the early 1970s, where he started as a member of the Technical Staff I at Rockwell International. Encouraged to be an engineer by his father, who was a mechanic, Mr. Mende pursued the career by first earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at the University of Hawaii. He graduated from the institution in 1969 and continued his education at the University of Southern California, receiving a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1975.
After working with Rockwell International until the late 1970s, Mr. Mende joined the AiRsch. Manufacturing Company as a development engineer. He remained here until 1983, and then joined Rockwell International as a Technical Staff IV for two years. Mr. Mende joined Defense Contracts Management West in 1987, first starting out as a mechanical engineer before switching over to his current role. In addition to these positions, Mr. Mende has lectured at Pacific State University.
Mr. Mende is a registered professional engineer with the state of California and maintains affiliation with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He credits his success to his professors who provided him with advice, the skills to overcome challenges and how to build upon fundamentals. Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Mende has learned it is important to complete tasks with accuracy no matter how challenging or simple. He endeavors to be remembered by his peers as someone who always contributed to group and individual efforts and accomplished tasks with positive results.
