With more than 40 years of professional excellence in his industry, Dr. Amick is a renowned figure in his field, serving as the vice president of Colin Gordon Associates since 1996. In this position, he specializes in issues related to structural and soil dynamics, rail and transportation vibrations, mechanical vibrations, and workplace vibrations. His research has also been applied to numerous nanotechnology research and development institutions. Prior to his current appointment, Dr. Amick worked for several corporations in the field of engineering, including as a senior consulting engineer and director for Acentech Incorporated, senior engineer for Bolt Beranek and Newman, and engineer for Liftech Consultants, Inc. He commenced his career as a research engineer at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and an engineer at EDS Nuclear.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Amick has also worked in academia, serving as an instructor at Sheridan College in the Northern Wyoming Community College District in the mid-1980s and as an assistant professor at Chadron State College in Nebraska in the early 1980s. Since establishing himself as a prominent figure in his industry, Dr. Amick has served as a technical expert and U.S. representative for the International Standards Organization since 1998 and as a member of the standards committee for Working Group 200, 2005, 12, 24, and 37 of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology since 1993.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Amick pursued a formal education, receiving a Bachelor of Science in civil and architectural engineering from the University of Wyoming in 1974. He followed this accomplishment with a Master of Science in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1976. In 1980, he earned a Master of Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. After obtaining some hands-on experience in the field, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering in 2004.
A member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, and the Structural Engineers Association of California, Dr. Amick is a contributor of several articles to professional journals, as well as a coauthor of the Semi Conductor Manufacturing Handbook in 2017. Married with one daughter, he enjoys photography, genealogy, history, and writing in his spare time.
