With 30 years of professional excellence, Dr. Wei is a prominent and respected engineering educator who has been serving the University of Cincinnati as a professor and director of Advanced Research on Transportation Engineering and Systems since 2004, having formerly been an associate professor and an assistant professor. Prior to these illustrious roles, he was a lecturer at the University of Southern California and California State Polytechnic University, a senior transportation systems engineer at Iteris, Inc., and TranSmart Technologies, Inc., and a researcher and teaching assistant at the University of Kansas. He commenced his career as a lecturer and scientist at Beijing University of Technology in 1988.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Wei pursued formal education at Beijing University of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in civil/highway and traffic engineering in 1985 and 1988, respectively. He subsequently transferred to the University of Kansas, receiving a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in civil/transportation engineering in 1996 and 1999, respectively. He is a certified professional engineer in the state of Michigan.
Among his notable achievements, Dr. Wei is renowned for his development of a new method using video-capture technology to extract vehicular trajectory and supportive software, as well as strategies for large Urban Intermodal Hubs and Radiator Rodway Systems. He has conducted research in methodology for prioritizing locations of Urban Transit Transfer Centers, in planning on Beijing Urban Intermodal Transportational Systems, and in Heuristic-Optimization Models for Service Request Vehicle/Crew Routing with Time Windows in a GIS environment. A grantee of TEC Engineering, Inc., and the National Science Foundation, Dr. Wei was honored with the Top Article Award by the Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering in 2016.
