S.A. Sherif, Professor and Facility Director at the University of Florida, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mechanical engineering.
Passionate about mechanical engineering and educating others, Dr. Sherif has found extraordinary success in his career. He has taken his talents as a professor to multiple institutions such as the University of Miami, Northern Illinois University, the Iowa State University of Science and Technology, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has been a teaching assistant at Alexandria University in Egypt. Currently, he holds numerous positions with the University of Florida including professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering since 2001 and founding director of the Wayne K. and Lyla L. Masur HVAC Laboratory since 1995. Additional responsibilities Dr. Sherif has undertaken at the institution include serving as director of both the Industrial Assessment Center since 2001 and of the Mobile Energy Laboratory since 2016.
Adept at mathematics and inspired by his father and uncles who were also engineers, Dr. Sherif knew he wanted to pursue a career in engineering. He matriculated at Alexandria University in Egypt where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with honors. He is particularly proud of learning he had earned the degree during the summer 1975, receiving a phone call informing him of his exceptional final examination scores and that he had received first-class honors due to his tenacious work. In addition to this degree, Dr. Sherif received a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from Alexandria University and a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from the Iowa State University of Science and Technology.
Never one to limit his time or talents, Dr. Sherif has pursued interests related to his career such as serving as a consultant for Solar Reactor Technologies, Inc., the Dade Power Corporation and Independent Energy Systems. He has been a coordinator of both aerospace and mechanical engineering for organizations including the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc., and the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools. Dr. Sherif has also shared his knowledge with others via journal articles, technical publications, conference papers, book chapters and co-editing publications.
Bettering any organization with which he is affiliated, Dr. Sherif holds membership with the American Society of Thermal and Fluids Engineers, the International Association for Hydrogen Energy and the International Solar Energy Society, among others. He has received numerous awards for his work, including, but not limited to, the Anniversary Medal for the Heat Transfer Division in 2013, a Certificate of Recognition for Research Contributions from NASA and the Kuwait Prize for Applied Sciences in 2001 which he is particularly proud of. As a further testament to his success, Dr. Sherif has been lauded with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Business, Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World.
