James Harvey Fox, Retired Chemical Engineer at 3M, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemical engineering.

Drawing upon more than three decades of professional experience, Mr. Fox is an esteemed figure in the field of engineering, having most recently served as senior specialist manufacturing engineer at 3M in St. Paul, MN, from 1997 until his retirement from the industry in 2004. Remaining with 3M for the entirety of his career, he previously held the role of manufacturing engineer specialist from 1981 to 1997, senior process engineer from 1976 to 1981, and process engineer from 1968 to 1976. Established in 1902, 3M is a multinational conglomerate corporation which produces a variety of projects, including adhesives, laminates, passive fire protection, dental and orthodontic products, electronic materials, medical products, and healthcare software, among others. The company employs 91,000 people across more than 70 countries.

Mr. Fox holds a Bachelor of Science in scientific engineering from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Laws from LaSalle Extension University, obtained in 1968 and 1975, respectively. Throughout his career, he has contributed myriad articles to professional journals and was the co-author of the 2014 edition of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ “Mixing Equipment” manual, which he considers to be a highlight of his career.

When Mr. Fox is not involved with engineering, he enjoys astronomy in his spare time. He has authored “Math for Amateur Astronomers” in 1982, having previously co-authored “Astronomy Lab for the Amateur” in 1981. In 2018, Minor Planet 50717 Jimfox was also named in his honor. As a testament to his success, Mr. Fox has accrued several accolades, including the Astronomical League Award in 2017, the G.R. Wright Service Award in 1996, and the Leslie C. Peltier Award in 2014. He has been selected for inclusion in the 35th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Business and two editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
