John Barrier, Engineer and Management Consultant at Heritage Christian University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in project management, chemical and environmental engineering education.
Mr. Barrier became involved in the engineering industry following his desire to help society. While his first positions were grounded in industry, such as production and business work, he later shifted to research, government and education as a way to help more people. In his career, Mr. Barrier has been a program and project manager at Tennessee Valley Authority, a process engineer at Monsanto Co. and has taught as an adjunct instructor at Heritage Christian University, Faulkner University and Calhoun Community College. Despite his retirement, Mr. Barrier remains active on the board of directors of Heritage Christian University and on the board of advisors of the Aina Institute in Hawaii. Furthermore, Mr. Barrier continues his missionary work around the world.
Mr. Barrier first earned a BSChemE from the University of Tennessee in 1972 and then spent several years at Monsanto’s Management Development Program. He earned a Master of Science in engineering administration from the University of Tennessee in 1975. Consistently dedicated to learning throughout his career, Mr. Barrier was in the management training program by TVA in the 1980s. He served in the US Army with the 330 M.P. Detachment and was honorably discharged as an Army Social Worker in 1978. In 1985, Mr. Barrier received the Technology Achievement Award from the US Department of Energy.
