Paris Dean Ely, Technical Writer at A.O. Smith Corporation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in industrial engineering.
Commencing his career in 1974, Mr. Ely served as a design engineer for Thompson & Litton Engineering, Inc., in Wise, VA, for one year prior to delving into architectural design at Rentenbach & Wright, Inc., in Kingsport, TN, for eight years beginning in 1977. From 1985 to 1986, he served as a technical writer and illustrator for Ingersoll-Rand PLC in Bristol, VA, having also briefly acted as an architectural designer for the Eastman Chemical Company in 1986. The following year, he was an industrial engineer for the Unisys Corporation, a subsidiary of Midwest Technologies, Inc., before serving as a longtime technical writer and illustrator for Electrolux, Inc., for 15 years. From 2002 to 2007, he served in the same capacities for Bush Hog, Inc., in Telford, TN, before acting in his current role as a technical writer for A.O. Smith Corporation in Johnson City, TN.
A former sergeant with the United States Army, Mr. Ely is additionally a prominent film producer. From 2015 to 2016, he co-produced the television series, “The Erwin Horror Story.” In addition, he served as an assistant producer of the feature film “Flirting with Azrael: A Psychedelic Rock Musical,” which debuted recently in 2018. As such, in an effort to remain abreast of developments within his areas of expertise, he maintains affiliation with the Industrial Education Society, the Construction Specifications Institute and Epsilon Pi Tau, the leading international honor society for technology.
Among the highlights of his career, Mr. Ely is most proud of being a technical writer, having worked with hot water heaters for the majority of his career. Looking forward to watching electronics becoming computer-based in the future, he has thoroughly enjoyed witnessing the work of fellow engineers. The recipient of an Associate of Applied Sciences from Mountain Empire Community College, he also holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology from East Tennessee State University.
