Christopher Patrick Silva, Ph.D., Senior Engineering Specialist at The Aerospace Corporation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electronics engineering.

Delving into the field of electronics engineering due to his natural technical proclivities in the hard sciences, Dr. Silva attended the College of the Redwoods, where he earned an Associate of Arts in 1980. Thereafter, he pursued an education at the University of California, Berkeley, where he received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, with honors, in 1982, a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1985, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1993. Commencing his career while he was pursuing his master’s degree, Dr. Silva became employed by The Aerospace Corporation as a technical staff member in 1989, holding this role for a subsequent six years. Thereafter, he served the corporation as a senior technical staff member for four years and an engineering specialist for an additional four years. Since 2003, he has held the position of senior engineering specialist.

Renowned for his many achievements, Dr. Silva is prominent for the co-development of novel measurement techniques for frequency-translating devices that are ubiquitous to modern communication systems, of baseband time-domain measure techniques for accurate device characterization, and of new high-frequency broadband chaotic oscillator circuit design that is the basis for advanced secure communications systems and the new application of formal state-of-the-art modeling method to communicate components and distortion compensation. Notably, he holds multiple patents in his field and has contributed myriad articles to professional journals and chapters to books. Likewise, he has presented at professional conferences, proceedings and workshops.

A fellow and member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and a member of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, Dr. Silva further maintains affiliation with the American Mathematical Society, the Phi Beta Kappa Society, Eta Kappa Nu and the Tau Beta Pi Association, Inc. Since 2017, he has impressively contributed to the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques as an associate editor, having previously served in the same capacity for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems from 2002 to 2004. He attributes his success to having strong family values, as well as his Roman Catholic faith.

In light of all of his accomplishments, Dr. Silva has garnered numerous accolades and honors. The two-time recipient of an Aerospace Corporation Achievement Award in 2013 and 2014, he was honored with three Aerospace Corporation Team Achievement Awards between 1998 and 2013. In addition, he was presented with the Aerospace Corporation Individual Achievement Award in 2003 and the Aerospace Corporation President’s Award in 1999, having been named Student of the Year by the American Association of Physics Teachers earlier in his career. As a testament to his success, he has further been named an Alumni Scholar of the University of California and held a Lockheed Leadership Fellowship and a National Science Foundation Fellowship in the mid-to-late 1980s.

Among the highlights of his career, Dr. Silva considers being elected a fellow of the IEEE and receiving the Aerospace Corporation President’s Award to be crowning moments. Enjoying traveling, studying history, reading religious texts and improving his home in his spare time, he has been featured in the fifth and eighth editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering for his contributions to the engineering industry. Looking toward the future, he intends to retire but earnestly continue his broad range of technical activities in the professional community.
