Charles Raymond Ward, LCDR US NAVY (Ret.), MSEE, Senior Systems Engineer at CornerTurn LLC, (retired November 2019) has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical engineering.

Mr. Ward feels fortunate to be working in the field he had always dreamed of and credits the training he received while in service of the U.S. Navy with helping to open the doors. From 2009 to 2019, he served as a senior systems engineer with CornerTurn LLC, a systems engineering company with many clients in the business of homeland security such as the U.S. Army and Lockheed Martin. Prior to joining the company, he served as a program manager of the Maritime Surveillance Systems and C2 Systems Divisions of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems. Earlier in his career, he worked in various roles for TRW.

In order to go into engineering, Mr. Ward first earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a minor in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1971. He earned an MSEE from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1977. His master’s degree thesis was titled Automatic Depth and Pitch Control for a Near-Surface Submarine. He also received a diploma from the Naval Command and Staff College in 1982. With the encouragement from his parents to attend college with a scholarship, Mr. Ward received a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship in 1967. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1971. He served in a variety of roles for two decades. He rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant Commander. In his military career, he served at Strategic Systems Programs as the Navigation Fleet Liaison Officer on the submarines Alabama, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and the Barbel.

Mr. Ward has also held a number of civic roles within his community. Since 2018, he has been President of United Methodist Men and a trustee of Trinity United Methodist Church. He has chaired the United Methodist California-Pacific Annual Conference Campsites Committee, the Julian Retreat Center Task Force, and the Camp Virginia Site Advisory Committee. Mr. Ward also chaired the Worship Committee and Grounds Committee of Burke United Methodist Church. He edited the “Surveillance Towed Array Sensor Passive User’s Guide” in 1994, the “Acoustic Warfare Operating Doctrine” 1992 and the “Trident Navigation Standard Operating Procedures” in 1991.
