Hans Kok, consulting engineer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in structural engineering.

Coming from a farming family, Mr. Kok had a humble upbringing focused on hard work and diligence. As a child, he had an interest in “the way that things worked,” but he was not exposed to the field of engineering until pursuing his undergraduate studies in Germany in 1940. He attended the Suderburg Engineering College for two years, followed by an additional year of study at Hamburg Engineering College. By 1950, he achieved an engineering diploma from a technical college in Aachen, Germany. From there, Mr. Kok quickly came to prominence in his career by demonstrating a dynamic blend of skills, knowledge and professional integrity.

Mr. Kok came to the United States in 1951 to work as a design engineer for Lummus Co. in New York, NY. After two years, he joined M.H. Treadwell Co., where he remained for more than a decade and progressed through three roles. He served as a structural engineer for three years, then head of the structural engineering section for six years, and finally chief structural engineer for one year. In 1963, the company went through a relaunch, known then by Treadwell Corporation. Mr. Kok continued with the firm during this time achieving accomplished leadership roles such as the vice president of plant design and the engineering division and as president. Additional roles held in Mr. Kok’s career include director of Basset Miller Treadwell Pty., and his current work as an engineering consultant.

To share his insights and knowledge with his industry peers, Mr. Kok has contributed many articles to professional journals. Additionally, he has been incredibly involved in organizations in his field. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and former chairman of the materials handling committee with the Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers. In addition, Mr. Kok is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the New York State Society of Professional Engineers, the American Institute of Mining, the American Mining Congress, and the American Management Association. As he looks ahead to the future, Mr. Kok intends to continue consulting and mentoring in the field of engineering.
