Possessing decades of work experience, Mr. Schmidt is widely regarding as an expert and authority in the field of engineering. Born in Rome, New York, on Sept. 22, 1932, to Floyd Vincent and Sophia Louis Schmidt, Mr. Schmidt grew up yearning to contribute to the world’s technological systems. He matriculated at Mohawk Valley Community College and earned an Associate of Applied Science in 1951 before working as a draftsman for Cable Corp. in his hometown from 1951 to 1955. He then worked as a designer for the company from 1956 to 1967, during which time he earned a Bachelor of Science from Utica College in 1962 and a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University in 1967. Mr. Schmidt advanced to the role of project coordinator for Cable Corp. from 1968 until 1969, which would be his last endeavor with the company.
In 1970, Mr. Schmidt took his talents to Xerox Corporation in Webster, New York, where he worked as a senior project engineer until 1981. He then served as the manager of plant engineering for Savin Corp. in Binghamton, New York, from 1982 to 1983 before joining Horizons Tech Inc. Mr. Schmidt performed construction surveillance for the organization and for the United States Air Force in Thule, Greenland, from 1983 to 1984. After completing this task, Mr. Schmidt returned to the United States and worked as a senior facilities engineer for Horizons Tech Inc. in Billerica, Massachusetts, and has since remained with the company.
A registered professional engineer in New York and Massachusetts, Mr. Schmidt has conducted invaluable research on an add-on system to control electrical surges in an electrical supply cable and has been essential to the modification of Federal Aviation Administration radar towers, buildings, and other services. He holds memberships with organizations such as the American Institute of Plant Engineers, American Military Engineers, the Cogeneration Institute (charter), the Association of Energy Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. In addition to his career, Mr. Schmidt was affiliated with the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, served his community as the chairman of the community action steering committee in Lee Center, New York, in 1968 and served as a member of the church official board of the Methodist Church in Shortsville, New York, in 1979.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Schmidt has been featured in the 49th and 50th editions of Who’s Who in America as well as the second and third editions of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. Though he is proud of the professional goals he has met, Mr. Schmidt considers marrying Suzanne Mae Thrasher on March 27, 1965, and having his two children, Mark Adrian and Tara Lee, to be his greatest and most significant accomplishments.
