Abu Saeed Jamaluddin, Principal Technical Consultant at Comprehensive Heater Support, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
Dr. Jamaluddin’s professional career covered the entire spectrum from academic and industrial research to real-life problem solving and implementation of the solutions in the field. He began his career in academic research, doing mathematical modeling of coal combustion processes before transitioning to developing modeling tools for industrial combustion systems. Dr. Jamaluddin then focused on design, operation, trouble-shooting, safeguarding and maintenance support for heat transfer equipment in refineries and chemical plants. He has conceived innovative ideas and technologies; and performed laboratory and pilot-scale tests in collaboration with governmental agencies, university laboratories and private enterprises. Furthermore, he implemented those ideas in refineries working with his counterparts within Shell and through joint-industry efforts. His efforts have earned him a total of three patents.
Dr. Jamaluddin became involved in his profession due to his parents’ positive influence. He matriculated at Bangladesh University Engineering and Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1972 and a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1980. He then graduated from the University of Newcastle in Australia with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1985 and immigrated to the United States of America that same year. Dr. Jamaluddin subsequently pursued postdoctoral research at the Combustion Laboratory of Brigham Young University from 1985 to 1988.
Dr. Jamaluddin accepted employment as a senior research engineer with Babcock and Wilcox Company in Alliance, Ohio, from 1988 to 1990 before taking his talents to the Shell Development Company at the Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, Texas, from 1990 to 1997. He then worked as a heat transfer specialist with the Shell Deer Park Refining Company from 1997 to 2004 and then as an advisor in combustion and heat transfer engineering with Shell Global Solutions from 2004 to 2014. He retired in late-2014 and formed a consulting company, Comprehensive Heater Support, LLC, where he has since been serving as the principal technical consultant.
As a testament to his success, Dr. Jamaluddin received the Presidential Award of Excellence at Shell in 2004 and 1994, as well as a Special Recognition Award at Shell Oil company a total of 12 times in his 25 years working for the company. He has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, as well as more than 100 reports for Shell Oil Company. He has been a reviewer of technical and scientific papers for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Industrial Combustion – the Journal of the International Flame Research Foundation. He is a regular contributor to literary magazines published by the Bengali Community in Houston, Texas; and served as a co-editor of the magazine in 1993. For all of his professional achievements, Dr. Jamaluddin has been featured in the fourth edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
