Ivan Vamos, Associate at Hudson International Group, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Executives for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of urban and regional planning as well as consulting.

A native of Budapest, Hungary, Mr. Vamos is a survivor of the Holocaust who immigrated to the United States in 1948. Though he is retired, Mr. Vamos travels to local schools and organizations within 100 miles of Albany, NY, to speak on his experiences and has spoken to over 20,000 students since the late 1990s. Prior to this endeavor, he pursued a formal education at Columbia University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1960 and a Master of Science in urban planning in 1965. During this time, he contributed as an engineering geologist for Geotechnics and Resources, Inc., in New York and Snowy Mountains in Australia, between 1962 and 1963. He went on to join the New York State Department of Public Works as an associate transportation planner for three years, before accepting a position as a director of planning for the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation from 1968 to 1974. As Mr. Vamos progressed with the organization, he held the posts of an assistant commissioner of environment, later working as a deputy commissioner for planning and development from 1974 until his departure in 1994.

Moreover, he contributed as an associate at Hudson International Group, Inc., from 1994 until his retirement in 2016. The highlight of Mr. Vamos’ career was to assist in the protection of the United States Barrier beaches for the disaster preparedness commission as well as protecting the Long Island shorelines. He was also proud to have helped in establishing the New York Bicycling Coalition. Civically, he dedicated his time as a senior patroller and Section Chief for the National Ski Patrol (NSP) for 35 years of active service and now is a lifetime NSP member. In addition, he served in the United States Navy achieving the rank of a Lieutenant, between 1960 and 1962, with service including Officer in Charge of Radar Site H-2 in NE Iceland. To remain abreast of changes in the field, he maintains a professional relationship with the American Institute of Professional Planners. For his accomplishments in the field, he has been featured in the 22nd edition of Who’s Who in the East.
