Nam Sung Woo, Research Scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in semi-conductor engineering.
Fascinated by computers during the prime of their emergence, Dr. Woo decided to pursue an educational background in computer science and electrical engineering. Moreover, he attended Seoul National University and earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1975. He continued his academic efforts by securing a Master of Science in electrical engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) in 1977. He would later conclude his studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1983.
Soon thereafter, he joined AT&T Bell Laboratories as a research scientist for 13 years, before accepting the position of president for Sansearch Inc., from 1996 to 1999. Dr. Woo served as the senior director of Texas Instrumentals between 2000 and 2003, further becoming president of Samsung Electronics for 10 years. After progressing and holding the post of an executive advisor with the renowned company for a year, he worked as an advisory professor for Tsinghua University since 2014. Additionally, he has worked as an executive chairman and chief executive officer of Compound Phototonics – a consumer electronics company – since 2016. Alongside her primary endeavors, Dr. Woo contributed as a speaker during the Consumer Electronics Show in 2013 and has maintained affiliation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. In light of his exceptional undertakings, he has been the recipient of the Industry Contribution Medal from the Korean Government in 2010.
