Donald Dobson, Retired Adjunct Staff Member at the Institute for Defense Analyses, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of electrical engineering research and analysis.
Dr. Dobson started his higher education at Northwestern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1950. He continued his academic pursuits at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1951, and took on a role as a research associate at Northwestern University in 1951. In 1952, Dr. Dobson started as an engineer at Industrial Research Products, and completed his doctoral studies, earning a PhD in electrical engineering from Northwestern University in 1955.
From 1954 to 1959, Dr. Dobson worked as a senior engineer at Sperry Gyroscope Company. He transitioned to North America Aviation, working as a senior technology specialist until 1963, and then starting as a research staff member at the Institute for Defense Analyses. Upon serving in this role for 35 years, Dr. Dobson became an adjunct staff member in 1990, and retired from the Institute for Defense Analyses in 1998.
In addition to his work as an engineer, Dr. Dobson has worked as an educator. In 1956, he worked as a physics instructor for Adelphi College in New York. From a young age, he had an interest in mathematics, and his interest in applied mathematics developed into a passion for the physics of electricity. During his career with the Institute of Defense Analyses, Dr. Dobson is proud to have worked on weapons systems analysis for the Pentagon.
Dr. Dobson has maintained memberships to multiple professional organizations, including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society, the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and the Pi Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society. As a further testament to his success, experience, and stature as an electrical engineer and researcher, Dr. Dobson has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in Finance and Business, and Who’s Who in America.
