Jerry Wayne Mill, CFA, Retired Owner and Portfolio Manager at Mill Asset Management, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aerospace engineering.
When Mr. Mill was a child in grade school and high school, he was always fascinated by the space program. He watched the launches of the Mercury and Gemini programs with his friends. It was exciting for him to see those missiles take off with a living person on board. In his senior year at the University of California Berkley, Mr. Mill saw a notice that NASA was coming to interview prospective job candidates. He always wanted to work for NASA so he went, never thinking he would get a job there. Two weeks later, he got a telegram offering him a job in Houston. In 1967, Mr. Mill graduated from the University of California Berkley with a Bachelor of Arts in physics and joined NASA in Houston as an engineer. He held that position until 1980, when he became an engineer for Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Denver, remaining until 1985.
Mr. Mill changed career paths in 1985. He became a financial analyst because the government stopped sending men to the moon. He was involved with the space shuttle, which was not very exciting so he thought it was time to move on. Mr. Mill went back to school while in Marietta, Denver, earning an MBA in finance from the University of Denver in 1984. In 1985, he became a financial analyst for Financial Programs in Denver until 1988 and then moved up to the position of portfolio manager from 1989 to 1991. In 1991, he started working with Invesco Trust Co. as a portfolio manager and remained there until 1995. From there, Mr. Mill became the owner and a portfolio manager of Mill Asset Management, Inc., where he remained until he retired in 2016. As a testament to his success, Mr. Mill has been listed in the 27th edition of Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.
