Mr. Gatlin was very poor growing up and had to work his way through school. He mostly worked offshore for an oil well company that was his friends’ company. It was an interesting business and when he graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1969, he wanted to return to school. Mr. Gatlin ended up working for a professor that wanted him to do undergraduate research. During this time, Mr. Gatlin also taught laboratory classes for high school teachers. Utilizing this lifelong experience in science, Mr. Gatlin opened his company, LWG Services LLC in 2007. Prior to this, he served as the vice president of research and development of Refinery Specialties (RSI Chemicals).
In addition to these positions, Mr. Gatlin served as a research chemist and Manager of Technical Services, Manager of Research and Product Development with Champion Chemicals, Inc., Champion Northwestern Chemicals, Ltd. from 1969 to 1978. He has been a longtime consultant in the field and holds numerous national and international patents in the field. Mr. Gatlin attributes his success to the time that he put into the profession. He believes in the following sentiment: “If you don’t learn to think in school, you won’t be able to outside of school.” Looking toward the future, he endeavors to enjoy that success by retiring and remaining as a consultant in the field. He wants to be able to refer people in need and point them in the direction to achieve the things they want.
