Marvin Sambur, PhD, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Raptor Consulting, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements and leadership in technology.
With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Sambur has excelled as the founder and chief executive officer of Raptor Consulting since 2006. From 2006 to 2018, he served on the corporate board of directors of FARO Technologies, Inc., and, from 2006 to 2016, he shared his expertise as a distinguished Professor of the Practice at the University of Maryland’s Clark School of Engineering. He has also served on the Air Force Scientific Advisor Board and several Special Security International Boards. He was a U.S. Senate-confirmed Assistant Secretary for acquisition and research with the U.S. Air Force from 2001 to 2005, and previously worked as the president and chief executive officer of ITT Defense in McLean, Virginia, from 1998 to 2001. Dr. Sambur held the post of the president and general manager of the Aerospace and Communications Division at ITT from 1991 to 1998, and served as the senior vice president of ITT Defense Communications for more than a decade. He began his career as a technical staff member at Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, where he worked for nine years.
Dr. Sambur holds several patents from his tenure at Bell Laboratories, spanning several fields, including artificial intelligence, speech recognition and speaker verification. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers in various engineering and technology journals. He has been recognized for his achievements with numerous awards, such as the Career Achievement Award from his alma mater, the City College of New York, in 2012, the 2018 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who’s Who as well as the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers Centennial Award for Outstanding Leadership in 2000, among many more. In preparation for his career, Dr. Sambur completed a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the City College of New York in 1968, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969 and finally a PhD in electrical engineering at the same institution in 1972. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers, and credits his father, Isidore Sambur, as a mentor and inspiration in his career. As a further testament to his success and stature, Dr. Sambur has been selected for inclusion in the 57th through 59th editions of Who’s Who in America.
