Raymond M. Mac Donald, Retired Naval Aviation Pilot, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in aviation.

Upon joining the U.S. Navy in 1963, Mr. Mac Donald served an illustrious 14 years in the military with time spent in Vietnam between 1965 and 1967. He had also served with the U.S. Naval Reserves as an aviator pilot from 1968 until his military retirement in 1977. Simultaneously, he worked for Pan American Airway from 1968 to 1974, with one year spent as a flight instructor at its training center in Miami, Florida. For his illustrious service, Mr. Mac Donald holds a Decorated Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and two Air Medal Awards from the U.S. Navy.

In the second half of Mr. Mac Donald’s professional career, he excelled as a pilot with various commercial airlines. Beginning in 1985, he worked for Cargo Airlines before joining Delta Airlines as a pilot and flight engineer from 1991 to 2000, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Rejoining Pan American World Airways, he excelled as a pilot and flight engineer in New York City from 1985 to 1991. Most recently in his career, Mr. Mac Donald was an electronics engineer for the Department of the Navy in China Lake, California from 2007 to 2010. Likewise, he was the owner and chief executive officer of Sierra Synergistics LLC in 2010, where he created two patents for an electricity saving device and location device.

Reflecting on his career trajectory, Mr. Mac Donald recalls his most notable highlight was graduating as a naval aviator in 1965. He also enjoyed his time as an adjunct professor of economics at Southern Lake Tahoe Community College in 2001. Today, he maintains affiliation with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Mr. Mac Donald thanks his mentor who greatly influenced him, Professor Mark Pingle and his thesis advisor.

Mr. Mac Donald received a Bachelor of Science in general studies from the University of Rochester in 1963 and a Master of Business Administration from Florida International University in 1983. He went on to study at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he achieved a Master of Arts in economics in 2002 and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2007. In his spare time, he enjoys swimming and playing with his dog, Brutus. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Mac Donald can be found in the 66th through 70th editions of Who’s Who in America and the 12th edition of Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
