Philip Clayton Grounds, Retired Engineer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical and mechanical engineering.
In his youth, Mr. Grounds was intrigued by the idea of building airplanes, leading him to spearhead a career within engineering. Backed by an Associate of Science from Vincennes University, he went on to attain a Bachelor of Science in mechanical and electrical engineering from the University of Evansville in Indiana. He also conducted postgraduate coursework at Indiana University and Purdue University. To add to his feats, Mr. Grounds is a registered professional industrial hygienist, as well as certified in all phases of asbestos work and hazardous material training.
Mr. Grounds commenced his professional career working for the Youngstown Sheet and Cube Company in Indian Harbor. Progressing in his abilities, he was a senior detailer and design specialist for connections used in steel structures for steel supported buildings. He also worked in architectural engineering for a surveying company. For 31 years, Mr. Grounds excelled as the director of engineering and environmental safety at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Indiana. During his years in education, he taught plumbing, refrigeration, electricity, graphic arts and apprenticeship courses. Likewise, as a professional engineer, he focused on the safety of employees, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical and plumbing work.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Mr. Grounds attributes his success to passion and integrity. Outside of his primary work, he is dedicated to church work and volunteering with several community organizations. Mr. Grounds is a lifetime member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and a member of the Indiana Society of Professional Engineers and Phi Theta Kappa. In addition, he is a past president of the Albesh Valley Electrical Society and the City Engineers of Indiana, as well as a past master of the Masonic Lodge, the first masonic lodge in Indiana.
