John M. Tobias, PhD, PE, CFEI, Principal Engineer and Chief Executive Officer at ElectroQuest LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in electrical engineering.

Flourishing in a more than two-decade long career in engineering, Dr. Tobias has excelled as the principal engineer and chief executive officer of ElectroQuest LLC in Oxford, Pennsylvania, since 1998. In addition, he has served as the director for safety and an engineering branch chief at the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command in Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, since 2011. He had previously earned distinction on behalf of the U.S. Army as the director for safety and an electrical engineer from 1992 to 2003 and between 2005 and 2011, as well as a senior antenna research engineer from 2003 until 2004 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. To attest to his prowess, Dr. Tobias holds four U.S. patents, including a grounding device and radial surface ground electrode.

Well regarded in his field, Dr. Tobias was the recipient of the National Fire Protection Association Special Achievement Award in 2004, the Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award in 2000 and the Commander’s Civilian Service Award in 1993. Additionally, he was named as the U.S. Army Material Command Federal Engineer of the Year by the National Society of Professional Engineers from 1994 to 2000, U.S. Army Material Command System Safety Engineer of the Year between 1993 and 1999 and the Department of the Army System Safety Professional of the Year in 1994. In accounting for his standout success, Dr. Tobias attributes his sense of persistence. He is most proud of the two years of lighting protection rework he performed at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City as part of the Cathedral’s restoration.

Dr. Tobias received a Bachelor of Science in physics from Seton Hall University in 1987 and a Master of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland in 1992. He went on to attain a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2002 and a Master of Science in business management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2014. In addition, Dr. Tobias is a licensed professional engineer by the State of New Jersey, a certified designer/inspector by the Lightning Protection Institute and a certified fire and explosion investigator and the National Association of Fire Investigators.
