Robert Virgil Fauquier, Retired Project Manager and Senior Estimator at Bechtel, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil engineering.

Accruing more than four decades of experience in the field of engineering, Mr. Fauquier retired in 2003 after serving as a project manager and senior estimator for Bechtel, Inc., in San Francisco for 10 years. Prior to this appointment, he served as a senior project manager for Healy Tibbitts Builders, Inc., between 1989 and 1993 – where he also served as a project manager from 1986 to 1987 – and a general superintendent and project director for Morrison Knudson from 1987 to 1989. Likewise, Mr. Fauquier excelled as a project manager and area manager for Riedel International, Inc., for two years, and spent further time with H.F. Lauritzen Corporation as an administrative manager, Santa Fe-Pomeroy, Inc., as a project engineer and project manager, and Dondlinger & Sons Construction Corporation as a project engineer and superintendent. He commenced his career in 1961 as a project engineer for Ben C. Gerwick, Inc. During his career, Mr. Fauquier also served Bechtel Corporation as a project engineer and senior estimator for nearly a decade.

After serving in the United States Navy, where he was stationed in Korea, from 1950 to 1964, Mr. Fauquier attended the University of Missouri, receiving a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1961. During his military tenure, he received numerous accolades for active combat duty. A registered professional engineer in the States of California, Missouri, Maine and New Hampshire, he has remained affiliation with numerous organizations, such as the American Association of Cost Engineers, the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers, the Maine Society of Professional Engineers, the New Hampshire Society of Professional Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers and the California Society of Professional Engineers, for whom he served as a past director.

Recognized as a pioneering figure in his field, Mr. Fauquier is notable for doing projects in construction and engineering in ways that had not been done previously, including a 13-week project in the San Francisco Bay Area. Refining prior methods of construction, he credits his success to his many mentors, which have included Neil Turner, Ben C. Gerwick, Joe Lidghy, Mike Thiele and E. Glynn Jones. He considers traveling the world to be a highlight of his career. Looking toward the future, he intends to continue enjoying his well-deserved retirement, which includes owning a beef cattle ranch of 110 acres. In his spare time, he previously crewed on sailboats in races on the San Francisco Bay for over 20 years, and he is known as a former golfer.
