Since 2016, Mr. Manning has been the owner and primary electrical engineer at Manning Design and Engineering Group, PLLC, a small Charlotte-based firm specializing in creating electrical design and power distribution solutions for commercial clients across all sectors. A LEED-accredited professional and licensed engineer in 14 states, Mr. Manning has spent close to 25 years in the industry driven by a childhood fascination with engineering and a belief that being an engineer is his calling. After graduating high school in 1990, Mr. Manning enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving proudly for the next seven years. While in the United States Air Force, he completed coursework at the Airman Leadership School and the Community College of the Air Force, earning an Associate’s degree in logistics in 1996. The following year, he was awarded a second Associate’s degree in general studies through the University of Maryland Global Campus and launched his engineering career. Between 1997 and 2007, Mr. Manning worked as an electrical engineer and electrical designer for a number of firms including Odell Associates, the Syska Hennessy Group, and the Preston partnership, and was named Electrical Engineering Department Manager at Elm Engineering Inc. in 2007.
During this time, Mr. Manning returned to school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. In 2010, he was named Director of Electrical Engineering for Moser Mayer Phoenix Associates, departing in 2012 to work with United Engineering Group before accepting a position as Production Management Group manager for McKim & Creed in 2013. Before opening Manning Design and Engineering Group PLLC, Mr. Manning spent two years as a senior electrical engineer for FeeemanWhite, Inc., and as a department manager for Charlotte Engineers. Mr. Manning’s work has included projects for the Salem VA Medical Center Operating Suite, Duke Energy, Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools, and many others, and he looks forward to continuing to help clients and grow his business in a niche market.
