Prem N. Mehrotra, President and Chief Executive Officer at General Energy Corp., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.

An engineering professional of more than five decades, Mr. Mehrotra got his start matriculating at the Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, attaining a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a Master’s degree in management in 1976. In addition, he earned a Master’s in Information Technology in his native India and is a Certified Geothermal Designer by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his first professional role, Mr. Mehrotra was an engineering supervisor at Sargent & Lundy Engineers in Chicago, Illinois for 10 years until 1980. For the following five years, he served as co-founder and senior vice president of Energy Resources + Planning, Inc.

Mr. Mehrotra recalls he ultimately became a part of the energy efficiency engineering industry out of his desire to save energy and have his own say in the development of turnkey projects. With this sentiment, in 1985, he founded General Energy Corporation (GEC), an engineering company in Elk Grove, Illinois that found quick success in providing all kinds of engineering services for energy efficiency. His efforts have always been focused on training people so they can be of service to others in the industry. Likewise, in 2013, Mr. Mehrotra founded the Grant Park Wind Farm in Kankakee County, Illinois, which lasted through 2018. Today, he is a certified professional engineer in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Reflecting upon his career, Mr. Mehrotra attributes all of his achievements to the teamwork of people who worked with him, as well as his constant awareness of the value of taking care of his relationships with them. Their welfare and prosperity have always been his concern. Notably, he has been the recipient of an Energy Efficiency Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, along with various other national and regional awards. Although Mr. Mehrotra will soon be turning 83, he envisions himself continuing his pursuits in developing energy-efficient engineering projects and helping people. His advice to others aspiring to work in his industry is to acquire much knowledge and experience and to have determination.
