Since 2014, Mr. Meyer has owned and operated Edison Engineering in St. Charles, Illinois, where he is responsible for engineering investigation and analysis of accidents, incidents, mishaps, and failures of all varieties. The firm specializes in accident investigation and reconstruction, failure analysis, computer-aided modeling and simulation, testing, and analysis of machine design, usage and safety. His practice areas include failure analysis, accident investigations, machine design and photographic, optical and visual analysis.
Mr. Meyer began his consulting career as a managing engineer with Exponent Failure Analysis Associates in Menlo Park, California from 1994 to 2002, where he performed accident investigation and reconstruction related to vehicles of all types, including on- and off-road vehicles, heavy equipment, lifts, cranes, ATVs, motorcycles, and bicycles. As a consulting engineer with ProAnalysis in Atlanta from 2002 to 2003, he was responsible for accident investigation and reconstruction and testing issues related to mechanical system failure.
Mr. Meyer provided superior service as vice-president of Packerville Engineering, Naperville, Illinois from 2004 to 2008, where he oversaw accident investigations and reconstructions, tested machine design, usage and safety issues and served in various management and leadership roles. As a mechanical engineer with Professional Analysis and Consulting, Sugar Grove, Illinois from 2008 to 2010, he provided consulting engineering services including accident investigations. He further made an impact as vice president of mechanical engineering with ITC Experts in Sugar Grove from 2010 to 2014.
After earning a Bachelor of Science in physics, summa cum laude, from Bethel University, St. Paul, Minnesota in 1987, Mr. Meyer followed with a Master of Science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1990, and continued his education with a Doctor of Philosophy in mechanical engineering from MIT in 1994. During his academic career, he garnered several honors that included a Hopkins Elks Lodge, First Banks Minneapolis and Gertrude Nyborg Memorial Scholarships and earned distinction as a Bethel College Presidential Scholar.
Mr. Meyer attributes his success to having a strong academic background and being able to have an understanding and analyzing of details, as well as his ability to relate and communicate with clients effectively. He considers his most notable career highlight to be his investigation of a helicopter crash that was caused by a collision with a red-tailed hawk, which he calls a “fascinating investigation to understand and to get to the bottom of what happened.” In the coming years, Mr. Meyer intends to continue to grow and expand his business and incorporate other disciples to better handle investigations.
