Edwin Mah, Transportation Engineer at Caltrans, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil engineering.
For nearly 25 years, Mr. Mah has excelled as a transportation engineer, developing plans for surface transportation projects according to established engineering standards and state or federal construction policy, preparing designs, specifications, or estimates for transportation facilities and planning modifications of existing streets, highways, or freeways to improve traffic flow, for the California Department of Transportation, the agency known as Caltrans. The organization manages the state’s highway system, which includes the California Freeway and Expressway System, supports public transportation systems throughout the state and provides funding and oversight for three state-supported Amtrak intercity rail routes. Mr. Mah participated in one of Caltrans’ largest highway projects in Southern California, which separated all major routes to allow for smooth traffic flow in the area.
Mr. Mah immigrated to the United States at age 17 and earned a degree in civil engineering from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He has subsequently returned to college to teach aspiring engineers and assist them in realizing their dreams of a better life for themselves. Inspired to help others after seeing firsthand the struggles that recent immigrants experienced due to language, legal, and cultural barriers, Mr. Mah is dedicated to community leadership within the Chinese-American community.
Mr. Mah attributes his success to hard work, perseverance, and humility and considers his career highlight doing his job as a service to the public and to the state. In the coming years, he intends to continue his success as a civil engineer and as a teacher.
