Roger Lee Osborne, Vice President at B&N Coal, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in civil engineering and coal mining.
Mr. Osborne has parlayed his interest in civil engineering from a young age into a five-decade career in the field. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Ohio University in Athens in 1970 as well as coursework in transportation, mining and computer graphics with the University of Kentucky, Northwestern University, and Washington State Community College. He subsequently excelled as a design engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation in Marietta, Ohio between 1970 and 1977 and as chief engineer for J.R. Coal Company in Gallipolis, Ohio from 1977 to 1979.
In 1979, Mr. Osborne began his longstanding association with B&N Coal, Inc., a successful mining company headquartered in Dexter City, Ohio that has additionally sought to preserve mined land with progressive reclamation, preservation of the topsoil, slope restoration of the high walls, slope stabilization and revegetation programs. Mr. Osborne is currently serving as B&N’s vice president and chief engineer. Additionally, he has been involved with Ohio Mining and Reclamation in Columbus, Ohio as a secretary, board director and member of the environmental committee and is a member of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. His many honors include a Certificate of Appreciation from the United States Army Corps of Engineers and Person of the Year given by the Ohio Coal Association. Mr. Osborne maintains that his career highlight has been traveling to Washington to communicate mining concerns to United States legislators and meeting with people at the Indian Embassy concerning possible coal sales to India.
