Title: Director of Crane Maintenance Engineering
Company: Maher Terminals LLC
Location: Hampton, New Jersey, United States
John T. Dobbins, Director of Crane Maintenance Engineering at Maher Terminals, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in facilities maintenance.
Since 2012, Mr. Dobbins has provided superior service for Maher Terminals in Elizabeth, New Jersey, one of the largest privately held multi-user container terminal operators in the world, as a crane engineer and later as director of crane maintenance engineering. In this capacity, he manages maintenance programs, develops and directs the implementation of modifications and repairs of multiple post-Panamax STS container cranes and spreader bars.
After obtaining an Associate of Science in electronics/electrical engineering from Trident Technical College in Charleston, South Carolina in 2008, Mr. Dobbins continued his education with a Bachelor of Science, magna cum laude, in electrical engineering from The Citadel in 2010. He thereupon excelled as a master electrician for the Mount Pleasant Waterworks and Sewer Commission from 2003 to 2005 and as an industrial electrician, supervisor of heavy-lift maintenance and facilities maintenance supervisor for the South Carolina State Ports Authority from 2005 to 2012.
Well aware of his natural talent for troubleshooting and repairing things, Mr. Dobbins followed a path that explored these gifts, and a career in engineering and maintenance in the port industry made the most sense. As a career highlight, he takes great pride in that he was able to complete his bachelor’s degree while working full time 60 or more hours per week all while helping raise three children. In the future, Mr. Dobbins is looking forward to eventually becoming an officer, perhaps a vice president or chief engineer, with Maher Terminal.
