Paul Ammirato, Director of Engineering at Montefiore Health System, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.
Mr. Ammirato studied bioengineering and medical electronics as a student, completing college coursework that prepared him for a career in electronic engineering and healthcare. As an electrician at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital and Montefiore Hospital, he learned much about the medical field. At Montefiore, he became a supervisor and a manager before being promoted to the director of engineering in 1997, a title he still holds to this day. Through Montefiore Hospital, he partners with local colleges to hire new graduates.
Currently, Mr. Ammirato runs a facility encompassing two million square feet of space that includes operating rooms, intensive care units and recovery rooms. He was previously honored with the Montefiore Hospital President’s Award. He was inspired to remain in the healthcare industry after speaking with the vice president of Montefiore at a job interview to become the hospital electrician. aving worked at Montefiore for over fifty years, his greatest career achievement was in helping to build the insulation of a plant use for cogeneration at Montefiore, which became the first hospital in New York City to have a power facility.
Mr. Ammirato is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America and a past member of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. Two of his uncles, who were engineers, inspired him in his career. In an early role, he installed huge machinery that had to be assembled on-site in Germany. Born and raised in East Harlem, New York, he previously worked on fundraising campaigns for Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Mt. Carmel-Rosary School, two community institutions.
Now semi-retired, Mr. Ammirato spent eighteen years training his full-time replacement and continues to remain active as a community leader. He is an avid golfer and a beloved Boy Scout leader who has garnered several awards for his efforts in mentoring children. He has also been dedicated to fundraising efforts for Montefiore.
