Joshua Rice

Title: Instructor
Company: Pennsylvania College of Technology
Location: Williamsport, Pennsylvania, United States

Joshua Rice, an instructor at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of plastics and polymer engineering.

Leveraging nearly a decade of experience in his chosen field, Mr. Rice has distinguished himself as a faculty instructor at his alma mater, the Pennsylvania College of Technology since 2016. In this capacity, he teaches up to five classes regarding polymer science – a subfield of materials science concerned with the properties of plastics and elastomers – in manufacturing, and serves as the co-head of his department. Mr. Rice previously worked as a process engineer on behalf of W.L. Gore & Associates from 2013 until 2015, during which time he helped ensure continued production and improved manufacturing processes.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Rice cultivated a particular talent in mathematics and science. Uninterested in traditional mechanical and chemical engineering, the specificity and unique applications of polymer processing and chemistry drew him toward his current field. He sought a formal education at the Pennsylvania College of Technology, from which he earned a bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering, summa cum laude, in 2013. Driven by a conviction that one must never stop learning, Mr. Rice studied further at Lehigh University, where he graduated with a master’s degree in polymer science and engineering in 2022. To remain aware of developments in his field, he has maintained his affiliation with such organizations as the Society of Plastics Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Rice is most proud to have aided in the relocation of a multimillion-dollar extrusion process from Arizona to Maryland, which supplied fluorinated materials for hernia and brain patch applications. Additionally, he is gratified to have been bestowed with such accolades as an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022. In accounting for his success, he largely credits the support and encouragement of his professors and colleagues, as well as his propensity for asking questions. Looking toward the future, Mr. Rice aspires to complete his academic career and obtain a doctorate in either manufacturing or process engineering. Professionally, he hopes to remain in academia, while expanding upon his portfolio as an industry consultant.
