Jason Thomas McCleish, Maj., U.S. Army (Ret.), Senior Engineering and Operations Leader at Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS), has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering.

With more than 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. McCleish has excelled as a senior engineering and operations leader as well as the senior engineering leader for the S3/MAST ADC team for Amazon Web Services Inc. since 2022. Prior to these positions, he was active as a principal group engineering manager for Azure AD Engineering and Operations with Microsoft from 2018 to 2022, the chief technology officer for strategy, operations, engineering and cybersecurity for the U.S. Navy Engineering Logistics Organization from 2015 to 2018 and the deputy director for enterprise infrastructure for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services from 2014 to 2015. Mr. McCleish previously worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in a number of posts, including as the chief of technology for Iraq in 2011 and 2014, a senior program director in 2011 and 2014, the chief of technology in Afghanistan from 2013 to 2014, and both a wireless program manager and a lead system engineer in 2010, 2012 and 2013. 

Operating as a lead wireless and LAN architect with BAE Systems at Scott Air Force Base from 2008 to 2010, Mr. McCleish began his career with various technology companies between 2000 and 2008, including Lightcore, Caci, Charter and Verizon. During this time, he pursued an education at DeVry University, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science in telecommunications management in 2002. Mr. McCleish concluded his studies at Webster University in 2008, graduating with a Master of Arts in management information systems. 

Mr. McCleish found much success with his military service as well, initially enlisting into active duty in the U.S. Army between 1992 and 2000. In addition to this tenure, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard in several roles from 2009 to 2022,, including in cybersecurity engineering, satellite communications and infantry. Advancing to the rank of major and cyber officer over the course of his military experience, Mr. McCleish was celebrated with multiple accolades in light of his accomplishments, including Army Commodation Medials, an Army Good Conduct Medal, an Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NASA Defense Medals, Reserve Mobilization Medals, a NATO Medal, a Meritorious Service Medal and an Award for Leadership Excellence in Advanced Officer Training.

A steadfast contributor to his local church, Disabled American Veterans, the Knights of Columbus and the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, Mr. McCleish is proud to have supported the White House and NASA over the years, and fondly recalls helping to build Sprint’s 4G network as well as the network for the U.S. Department of Defense. Attributing his success to his work ethic and leadership, he is also grateful to build cloud networks from nothing for Microsoft to support the U.S. government. Looking toward the future, Mr. McCleish hopes to retire in the coming years while transitioning into the consulting sector on a limited basis.
