Hugo Valencia

Title: Owner and Consultant
Company: IT Controls Consulting LLC
Location: Rockville, Maryland, United States

Hugo Valencia, owner and consultant at IT Controls Consulting LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in information technology, automation, and robotics.

Drawing from his extensive experience working with some of the most recognizable automotive and technology brands in history, Mr. Valencia is an expert on nearly any type of machine, infrastructure servers, firewalls, and programming. Counting his most notable achievement as starting his company, he also considers it a career highlight when he worked on the Machine Monitoring System, which is widely used across the U.S. to connect different controllers, such as POCs (proofs of concept) to any computer or microcontroller to collect the desired data. Having specialized in automation for more than 10 years, Mr. Valencia decided to launch his business soon after he was asked to collect data for a project that involved IT yet was different from his expertise. Facing the challenge, he hired people with master’s degrees in computer science to teach him how to proceed. He then realized there was an enormous need for data collection on the front end of the process to show others the automation side. Today, he is proud that his company stands out in the marketplace by performing both automation and IT, unlike most other firms.

Laying the foundation for his career by earning a master’s degree in automation and robotics from the Universitat d’Alacant in Spain and a bachelor’s degree in mechatronics engineering from Instituto Tecnológico de Saltillo in Mexico, Mr. Valencia is the author of two scholarly works for projects titled “3D Object’s Recognition with Kinect for Robotic Manipulations” and “Vibration Analysis (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness) with MTS 4100.” Fluent in speaking French, Spanish, and English, he attributes his success as an engineer to his efforts to innovate, keep up with technology, and diversify his skills, all of which continually help his professional growth. Learning everything he can in the industry and securing new certifications also keep his career moving forward. Most rewarding, he says, is seeing the result of the interaction between a user and the system that he developed, making sure at the end that the user is comfortable and satisfied.

Before starting IT Controls Consulting LLC in 2022, Mr. Valencia was the principal engineer at Automated Control Concepts, LLC; a senior IT analyst in automation and a controls engineer at the ZF Group; a field service engineer for Marposs; and, for the Chrysler Group LLC in Mexico, was a special programmer engineer at the Saltillo South Engine Plant, an automation engineer for the Saltillo Truck Paint Shop Plant, and a controls engineer at the Saltillo Engine Plant. In the coming years, Mr. Valencia plans to complete a second master’s degree and earn a PhD. He envisions his business growing by hiring and teaching junior engineers. He also wants to create a project that trains engineers in Mexico.
