Dr. Zhang leverages more than a decade of experience as a rising leader in the engineering industry. Specializing in automotive and software engineering, she has served as the vice president of engineering and the United States site lead for Pony.ai since 2021, having originally joined the company in 2018 as the head of perception and prediction. As a leader within her company, she primarily focuses on the development of self-operating cars, in addition to managing her team of fellow engineers. Prior to joining Pony.ai, she excelled as a teach lead and staff software engineer at Waymo in Mountain View, California, between 2017 and 2018. At the onset of her career, Dr. Zhang joined Google in 2012, where she worked in several software engineering roles until 2016.
Ever committed to her professional endeavors, Dr. Zhang remains affiliated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. As part of her vocational journey, she cultivated her higher education, beginning her studies at Kyoto University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 2006. After receiving a master’s degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008, she ultimately achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and computer engineering at Cornell University in 2012. Attributing much of her success to her passion and focus, Dr. Zhang is particularly proud of all her contributions to the production of new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for self-driving automobiles.
