Bob Dixon, professor and head of engineering technology at Walters State Community College, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of engineering academia.
Having accumulated more than four decades of experience, Dr. Dixon is a proven leader in the engineering industry. Specializing in engineering management and academia, he has served as a professor and as the head of engineering technology at Walters State Community College since 2002. As part of his duties in the field, he primarily teaches computer drafting and design, in addition to other manufacturing and industrial engineering procedures. Prior to his current appointments, Dr. Dixon excelled as a product engineer and engineering manager for Alcoa Howmet Castings (now Howmet Aerospace) from 1987 to 2002. At the onset of his career, he was a production machine operator for TRW Inc. from 1980 to 1987. Dr. Dixon also previously operated as an accreditation board member of the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering from 2008 to 2019.
Well-regarded for his scholarly output as well, Dr. Dixon authored his engineering book, “Machining Fundamentals,” which was originally published in 2014 and has subsequently seen several reprints. He also holds a 2004 patent for a method for treating ceramic cores. As part of his vocational journey, Dr. Dixon also pursued a formal education, having earned several degrees since originally attending Walters State Community College in the early 1980s. To wit, he ultimately achieved a Doctor of Education in educational leadership at East Tennessee State University in 2016. In addition to his academic credentials, he also holds several pertinent certifications in the use of various industry software. To commemorate his accomplishments, Dr. Dixon has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, most recently including a Distinguished Faculty Member Award from his institution in 2021.
