Dr. Olusegun Stanley Tomomewo, assistant professor and program director at the University of North Dakota, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of education.

With nearly two decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Tomomewo has cultivated a fulfilling career as an educator and engineer. Specializing in energy and petroleum engineering, he has served as an assistant professor and program director for energy and petroleum engineering at the University of North Dakota since 2021. He originally joined the institution in 2018 as a research and teaching assistant. Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Tomomewo also previously worked as a drilling optimization engineer for SLB in his native home from 2013 until he immigrated to the United States in 2017. Adjacent to his primary duties in the field, he has also dedicated himself to various scholarly pursuits, having authored and co-authored numerous papers and articles pertaining to his work in the field. Most recently, Dr. Tomomewo co-authored a 2021 piece, titled “Creating Value for the High-Saline Bakken Produced Water by Optimizing its Viscoelastic Properties and Proppant Carrying Tendency with High-Viscosity Friction Reducers.”

As part of his vocational journey, Dr. Tomomewo pursued his own formal education, originally earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at the University of Ibadan in 2006. He subsequently continued his studies at his alma mater and received a Master of Science in the same area of study in 2011. He would ultimately achieve a PhD in energy engineering at the University of North Dakota in 2021. In addition to his academic credentials, he is also a fully registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. To commemorate his achievements, Dr. Tomomewo was recently honored as the Most Innovating in the Research Department at his university in 2023. In light of his fulfilling career, he has largely attributed his success to his grandmother, who instilled in him a dedicated work ethic. In the coming years, Dr. Tomomewo hopes to continue aiding in efforts to guide his industry toward renewable energy technologies.
