Currently, he is the head of engineering and science at Amazon in Seattle, Washington, a role he has held since 2021. In this position, he oversees engineering managers, data scientists, tech teams, and team members, delivering mission-critical programs for Amazon’s selling partners. His leadership and strategic vision have been instrumental in driving Amazon’s technology initiatives forward.
Among his notable achievements at Amazon, Mr. Savitala launched the Seller Discussion Forums, a social hub for over 2 million Amazon sellers worldwide, and implemented Small Business and Black Owned Business badging and certifications, which significantly boosted sales and visibility for these businesses. Prior to this, he served as a senior software development manager at Amazon from 2015 to 2021, where he led major projects such as the omnichannel initiatives for Amazon Books, 4-Star, Amazon Fresh and GO Stores, managing over 80 team members across Seattle and Bangalore, India.
Mr. Savitala’s career began at Infosys Limited in Bengaluru, India, a global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting, where he worked as a software engineer from 2000 to 2003. He then moved to Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation, an American multinational information technology services and consulting company in Hyderabad, India, as a lead software engineer from 2003 to 2004. His journey continued at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington, where he served as a principal and software engineering manager from 2004 to 2015. During his tenure at Microsoft, he made substantial contributions to software development and team leadership, earning more than 10 team awards. His roles included leading large-scale enterprise programs, building organizations from scratch, and delivering solutions on cloud and hybrid models.
Mr. Savitala’s academic achievements include a Bachelor of Science in electronics from Loyola Academy, Osmania University, earned in 1996, and a Master of Science in computer science from the same institution in 1999. He furthered his education with the chief technology officer program at Wharton Executive Education and completed coursework in machine learning at Amazon Machine Learning University. He attributes his success to the great leaders he has worked with and the unwavering support of his family.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Savitala is actively involved in his community. He volunteers for local schools and has served as a robotics coach for the Lake Washington School District for seven years and as a Science Olympiad coach for three years. His commitment to fostering young minds is evident through these roles. Outside of his professional endeavors, he is married and a proud father of two. His hobbies include playing American cricket, hiking and tutoring. Looking ahead, he remains committed to continuing efforts to further his career and seek ways to contribute meaningfully to both his professional field and community.
