Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Company: SSOE Group
Location: Hillsboro, Oregon, United States

Julian Quist, senior mechanical engineer at SSOE Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mechanical engineering.

With nearly 30 years of experience to his credit, Mr. Quist has excelled in the field of mechanical engineering. He is currently a senior mechanical engineer at SSOE Group, where he has worked since 2019. In this role, he specializes in designing air conditioning, water piping, and plumbing systems. Mr. Quist is currently working on a project related to battery manufacturing, where he leads a team specializing in hydronic design. His responsibilities include managing the project, answering questions from his team and other engineering groups, and ensuring effective communication to keep the project running smoothly. Prior to his current position, Mr. Quist was a mechanical engineer at Design Group Facility Solutions from 2014 to 2019, at SSOE Group from 2010 to 2014, at CH2M HILL from 2007 to 2010, and at Multatech from 1996 to 2006. Throughout his career, he has been involved in major semiconductor ramp projects in Hillsboro, Oregon, and has received internal company awards for his contributions.

Mr. Quist believes his success lies in his focused expertise and extensive experience in the physics side of engineering. While many engineers understand how to apply equations and formulas, he is comfortable delving into the root equations and developing his own when necessary. He believes this depth of understanding allows him to approach challenges with a comprehensive perspective and devise tailored solutions. Before embarking on his professional path, he pursued an education at The University of Texas at Arlington, earning a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering in 1996. He is registered in Texas, California, New Mexico, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Arizona, and Kansas. In addition, he was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.

Looking ahead, Mr. Quist plans to harness the potential of technology in his company. While the company currently focuses on 3D designs, he aims to fully utilize the additional features of these models, ultimately developing a 3D design environment that allows the virtual construction of buildings before they are physically built. He also plans to explore more ways to utilize refrigeration technology and execute the Montreal Protocol, an international treaty designed to protect the ozone layer. As he approaches retirement, his goals include transitioning into entrepreneurial ventures. One of his main projects is the development and distribution of virtual windows, which aim to address heat loss and gain associated with traditional glass windows by using display screens mounted on walls with exterior-facing cameras to simulate the appearance of windows. One valuable lesson Mr. Quist has learned throughout his professional journey is the importance of not being afraid to ask for help. He notes that in the consulting field, expertise in one area does not necessarily translate to expertise in all areas. Therefore, seeking assistance from those with relevant experience can lead to more efficient and effective problem-solving.
