Larry J. Horner, author and principal engineer at Intel, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in telecommunications and infrastructure transformation.
With nearly four decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Horner has excelled in the field of telecommunications infrastructure transformation. He is currently a solution architect in the service provider network function virtualization – influencer sales group at Intel, a position he has held since 2015. In this role, he is responsible for transforming how telecommunications infrastructure is built and operated globally, contributing to an industry with a total business revenue of approximately $4 trillion annually. Prior to this position, he held various roles at AT&T. He was active as an area manager of network engineer of business and voice over internet protocol from 2013 to 2015, and a principal member of technical staff from 2010 to 2013.
Mr. Horner began his career as a software engineer at Quatech in 1984. He then worked as a development engineer at Loral Defense Systems, previously Goodyear Aerospace, from 1985 to 1989, followed by his role as a senior staff engineer at DGM&S from 1989 to 1995. He later became the general manager of engineering at North Coast Logic from 1995 to 1997 and the vice president of research and development at 2021.Interactive in 1997. He continued his career at Ulticom, serving in various roles, including project engineer, program manager, and senior technical architect from 1998 to 2000, professional services engineer from 1998 to 2001, lead engineer for customer support and testing from 2001 to 2004, and professional services product and customer support and testing from 2003 to 2004. Additionally, he was a senior technical staff member for customer support and testing at Sonus Network Systems from 2004 to 2005, director of verification office testing and support from 2005 to 2008, and vice president of system verification and testing from 2008 to 2009.
Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Horner pursued an education at The University of Akron, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering in 1985 and a Master of Science in electrical engineering, with a focus on communication systems, in 1990. He also served in the U.S. Army as a jumpmaster and S3 non-commissioned officer in charge from 1975 to 1978. In addition to his primary vocation, he remains active in various organizations. He has been a house lead with Habitat for Humanity International in North Collin County, Texas, since 2009 and has served on the ECE Department Industry Advisory Council at The University of Texas at Dallas since 2017. Additionally, he is a Senior Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He attributes his success to his curiosity, drive, and excitement in sharing knowledge with others. Looking ahead, he plans to dedicate his time to mentoring the next generation of professionals entering the industry.
