Dr. Oana M. Leonte, director of research at Berkeley Polymer Technology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in chemical engineering.

Dr. Leonte has dedicated five decades to chemical engineering, currently serving as the research director at Berkeley Polymer Technology, a role he has held since 2010. His experience also includes work at Pinnacle Research Institute in 1995 and Space Systems/Loral LLC, now SSL, from 1992 to 1994, and serving as the director of the Heterogeneous Catalysis Laboratory at the Romanian Academy. He also dedicates his time as a visiting lecturer at various institutions. During his career, he has had nine patents issued, with four more pending. To stay current on the industry’s latest trends, he has maintained memberships with various institutions including the American Chemical Society, the Electrochemical Society, the Chemical Society of Romania, the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and, Electronics Engineers, the American Romanian Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Men and Women of Science. Prior to these accomplishments, he laid a solid foundation for his career, earning a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the Politehnica University of Bucharest, followed by a PhD in chemical engineering from the Politehnica University of Bucharest in 1967.  

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Leonte has been a recipient of the Excellence Award from the Society of Chemical Engineers of Romania in 2024, the Nicolae Teclu Romania Academy Award, the Salute to Excellence Award from the California Section of the American Chemical Society, and an an award from Lam Research. Reflecting on his career, his most notable achievement was saving SSL from bankruptcy by correctly diagnosing battery issues and recommending a supplier change, turning the company profitable. He is also proud of his work at Pinnacle Research Institute in 1995, where he resolved a major failure in their supercapacitors, aiding the company’s recovery despite working on a contract basis before obtaining his citizenship. She attributes her success to the education she received in school as well as from her parents, and the dedication she has had to the industry. She advises aspiring professionals to continuously strive for improvement and maintain an insightful attitude, encouraging them to explore beyond their field into areas such as art, culture, travel, and museums, as these experiences can inspire fresh ideas. She also emphasizes the importance of self-belief and ongoing education.
