Jack B. Smith, CAP, CSM, senior manager of operations research at JDSAT Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in operations research and data science.

With two decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Smith has excelled in operations research and data science. He currently serves as a second-level senior manager of operations research for JDSAT Inc., a role he has held since 2024. In this position, he works in small teams to solve complex problems using a comprehensive tool suite, including data science, applied math, statistics, and computer science. Previously, he held several roles in the U.S. Coast Guard. As a senior operations research analyst from 2020 to 2024, he led a team of 15 in HR data analysis, managing 7,000 active and 10,000 reserve members, overseeing accession and promotion processes, and ensuring effective retention efforts. He also served in the enforcement division from 2017 to 2020, as an operations research analyst in the manpower team, human systems integration division from 2014 to 2017, in the incident management division from 2009 to 2012), a command duty officer of the Pacific area command center from 2006 to 2009, and as a deck watch officer from 2004 to 2006.

Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Mr. Smith pursued an education at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, earning a Bachelor of Science in electrical and electronics engineering and a Bachelor of Science in operations research. He continued his academic efforts at Ashford University, obtaining a Master of Arts in teaching and learning with technology and a Master of Science in management science in engineering from Stanford University. Following these accomplishments, he completed certifications as a certified scrum product owner and scrum master from Scrum Alliance, a Prosci® Certified Change Practitioner, and certified analytics professional. His professional memberships include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Stanford Alumni Association.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Mr. Smith was presented with the Meritorious Service Medal, the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, two Coast Guard Achievement Medals, and two Commandant Letter of Commendation Ribbons. Additionally, he received the Commander Jim Simpson Award for Excellence in Public Affairs at the unit level and was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate in Electrical Engineering. His professional memberships include IEEE and the Stanford Alumni Association. He credits his success to the support of his faith community and the Coast Guard, who have been his mentors, peers, and prayer partners, as well as his wife, a fellow Coast Guard veteran, and his family, who he describes as pillars of strength. Additionally, he credits the friendships and professional associations he has formed over the years. In the coming years, he aspires to continue thriving in his career and pursue his passions.
