Moisey Levit, senior director of operations at Equinix Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in digital infrastructure.
Building on 40 years in his field, Mr. Levit currently serves as the senior director of operations at Equinix Inc. He joined Equinix in 2009 as a senior site manager before being promoted to director of operations in 2015 and then senior director of operations in 2019. In this position, Mr. Levit oversees a team of technicians focusing on Equinix’s high-stakes international business exchange (IBX) data centers. His team ensures maintenance of the more than 200 data centers around the world which are used by over 260 companies, and they have successfully managed 99.999% uptime. Prior to beginning his 15-year tenure with Equinix, Mr. Levit held the position of data center manager for Merrill Lynch, establishing his expertise in the field. He is proud of his positive reputation within a small industry and his mix of management and engineering experience.
Mr. Levit’s success is built on a solid educational foundation. Growing up in Russia, he developed an interest in electronics by taking apart devices at a young age, going on to demonstrate expertise in math and physics when he started school. Mr. Levit earned a Master of Science in telecommunications engineering from the Saint Petersburg University of Telecommunications in 1987. Soon after finishing his academic work, he and his family applied for visas and immigrated to the United States.
Though immigrating from Russia to the United States was a challenging process, Mr. Levit overcame it thanks to his persistence and dedication to learning. During the immigration process, he taught himself English by watching American movies and TV shows, enrolling in traditional language classes and seeking other people to have English conversations with. This growth showcased the diligence and work ethic that Mr. Levit credits for his success more broadly. He also emphasizes the importance of celebrating one’s accomplishments and treating others fairly. Mr. Levit believes in embracing loyalty towards one’s job, which is why he has remained with Equinix for 15 years. When he joins an organization, he prides himself on giving as much of his time and energy as possible, trusting that all parties will benefit from positive results.
In addition to his professional life, Mr. Levit is committed to civic advocacy. He regularly donates to nonprofit organizations, with a specific focus on groups that support cancer patients and research. Mr. Levit was financially supported by a Jewish group when he immigrated, and he made it a priority to repay them once he was settled in the U.S. That anecdote reflects his general perspective, with a willingness to accept help but a desire to always give back even more than he is given. Mr. Levit also contributes to Data Center Dynamics, an online publication focused on his network engineering that holds live events.
Outside of his career, Mr. Levit is a loving husband and devoted father to one child. He enjoys classical music, opera, local history and travel. Looking to the future, Mr. Levit plans to continue working in database management at Equinix until he is ready for retirement. Although he’s nearing retirement age, he remains excited and engaged in his work and has no immediate plans to slow down.
