Zoltan Egel, MS, director of RAMS Engineering at Siemens, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in engineering and safety.

Mr. Egel has dedicated himself to the field of engineering, specializing in functional safety, reliability engineering, system engineering, technical product management, verification and validation, and quality assurance. He currently serves at Siemens, where he has been the director of RAMS Engineering since 2018 and product safety manager since 2015. In these roles, he ensures that the equipment and solutions they provide to railroads work reliably, that there are no service disruptions, collisions, or derailments, and that maintenance workers operate safely. He is also responsible for ensuring that designs are implemented and tested properly, mentors and leads his team, serves as an escalation point, and deals with federal authorities and executive management within Siemens. Prior to these positions, he was a product safety engineer at Siemens from 2012 to 2015, a verification manager at Siemens, Germany, from 2011 to 2012, a product safety engineer at Siemens, Germany, from 2011 to 2012, a business analyst at Siemens, Germany, from 2010 to 2011. His earlier roles included research team lead at FTSRG, Hungary, from 2007 to 2010, research associate at FTSRG, Hungary, from 2007 to 2010, and embedded software developer at evosoft Hungary from 2005 to 2007.

Before embarking on his career, he pursued an education at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, earning a Master of Science in computer engineering in 2005. He also earned a master’s degree in computer engineering from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology that same year. He is also certified in several courses, including Project Management: Control using the Earned Value and Risk, Creating Psychological Safety for Diverse Teams, Managing Talent, and High Stakes Leadership: Leading in Times of Crisis. In addition to this, he has found success in his written works, which include a patent on “Railway Safety: Critical Systems with Task Redundancy and Asymmetric Communications Capability,” and co-authoring “Sensor Selection for IT Infrastructure Monitoring,” “Qualitative Performance Control in Supervised IT Infrastructures,” and “Model-Based Approaches for Dependability in Ad-Hoc Mobile Networks and Services.”

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Egel takes pride in the team he has built and that the patent they created, alongside Klaus Weber, almost a decade ago has given rise to a business that generates tens of millions of dollars annually and has also helped them secure a solid position with the class one freight railroad. He attributes his success to his upbringing and drive to be responsible, as he believes if something is not safe, it must be corrected. He also says his ability to explain intricate safety concepts at different levels of detail has helped him achieve what he has today. In the coming years, he believes there is still much to accomplish in collaboration with Siemens, federal authorities, and railroad customers to enhance public service. In offering advice to aspiring professionals, he says the industry has often unseen complexities, including sophisticated software development, intricate hardware systems management, and large-scale customer project implementation, highlighting the meticulous planning and coordination required for major projects. He advises to “explore further as it offers a dynamic and multifaceted career path brimming with opportunities for those willing to delve deeper.”
