Ahmed Ezat Aburahmah, PhD, deputy city engineer at the City of San Diego, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in traffic management.
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Aburahmah has established a successful career in engineering, specializing in traffic management. He currently excels as the senior traffic engineer and deputy city engineer for the City of San Diego, a position he has held since 2002. In this role, he serves as the section head for safe divisions, issuing permits for CIT projects, construction, and design plans, attending pre-construction meetings, following up on project issues, and reviewing plans. His experience also includes serving as traffic management division manager for the Manatee County Government from 1994 to 2001 and as a professor at San Diego State University for 11 years. He has been a council member of the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices since 2024, a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers, and involved with the Traffic Control Devices Committee of the Transportation Research Board. Additionally, he has volunteered as a past president of the Institute of Transportation Engineers Local Chapters.
Laying a solid educational foundation, Dr. Aburahmah earned a Bachelor of Science and a master’s degree from Tennessee State University, as well as a PhD in civil engineering from the University of South Florida in 2000. He furthered his education with certifications as a Registered Professional Civil Engineer in California and Florida, and a Transportation Professional Certificate. He takes great pride in participating in various projects where he was instrumental in changing the classifications of streets, parking, and bike lanes, resulting in positive feedback from the community. He attributes his success to his education and experiences. In the coming years, he hopes to help his daughter get into medical school, continue working in his current role, and travel. When advising aspiring professionals, he emphasizes the importance of doing the right things and being patient, stating that success requires hard work and that loving what you do allows you to give back to your community.
