Mark D. Knippa, chief executive officer and president at Boldwater USA LP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Engineers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in energy resources.

With three and a half decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Knippa has established a successful career in the utilities sector, specializing in energy, resources, gas, petroleum, waste, environmental compliance, and health and safety. He currently excels as the president and chief executive officer at Boldwater Environmental Solutions, a role he has held since 2010. Boldwater Environmental Solutions specializes in bioremediation and environmental cleanup, focusing on the restoration of contaminated soils and water using all-natural, non-GMO methods. Their innovative processes are designed to effectively address hydrocarbon contamination while ensuring safety for the environment and surrounding ecosystems, making a significant impact in the field of environmental protection and sustainability.

In this capacity, Mr. Knippa is responsible for developing and implementing processes for cleaning up hydrocarbon contamination in soils and water using all-natural, non-GMO methods that are environmentally friendly. His experience also includes serving as managing partner at Aspen Pipeline LP from 2006 to 2011, a company specializing in pipeline construction and maintenance services for the oil and gas industry, and as director of project origination at Enron Corp from 1989 to 2005, an energy company that specialized in trading and marketing natural gas, electricity, and other commodities. Reflecting on his path, he laid a solid educational foundation by earning a bachelor’s degree in natural gas and chemical engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in 1989, along with completing the executive program for corporate finance at Rice University. He takes great pride in his patent for a bioremediation process called “Rapid Remediation,” developed in partnership with a company in 2020, which is currently in use at Boldwater Environmental Solutions. Additionally, he has effectively addressed the waste stream from drilling operations by managing centrifuge waste, a significant component that consists of low-gravity solids suspended in drilling mud, and successfully used a centrifuge to efficiently remove these solids, reducing the mud weight.

In the coming years, Mr. Knippa is ready to take a step back from his role at Boldwater Environmental Solutions, though he has plenty of hobbies to keep him busy. He genuinely enjoys his work, and both of his children are now involved in the business; his daughter manages regulatory work and oversees all office administration tasks, while his son has been managing projects in the field for about three to four years, gaining valuable hands-on experience that prepares him for future problem-solving. He looks forward to passing the baton to them, finding great joy in having children who are both interested in and capable of taking over the business. Additionally, he is focused on developing and implementing processes to effectively clean up hydrocarbon contamination in soil and water, utilizing all-natural, non-GMO methods that are safe for the environment, plants, and animals. This innovative bioremediation approach represents a significant advancement in the field and has led to impressive results, as he and his team continually enhance their capabilities and push the boundaries of what can be achieved with this technology.
